HyRAP®, the 100% Recycled Asphalt Pavement!

Brooks Construction Company, Inc. in conjunction with Crowley Chemical Company, Inc. unveiled HyRAP® at a Media Event on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011.  This new product redefines the standard of recycled materials.  Asphalt is already the most recycled product in the world.  Most roads and parking lots today are constructed with up to 35% recycled asphalt pavement.  Through the use of state of the art technology and advanced quality control, Brooks Construction has developed HyRAP®, a sustainable, totally recycled asphalt pavement material. HyRAP® is 100% recycled asphalt!

Attendees at the Grand Opening Event enjoyed a press conference and dedication of the facility, toured the facility, learned how the new product is manufactured, examined the various components of HyRAP®, and explored the applications of this cost effective, environmentally friendly pavement material.

Recycling is nothing new at Brooks Construction:

• We were the first local company to take advantage of landfill waste gases to help drive our Fort Wayne asphalt plant;
• Brooks endeavors to use as much recycled concrete as possible for aggregate base on paving projects. The use of this product has allowed us to pass the cost savings on to many of our customers while reducing landfill usage;
• We have also integrated the use of steel slag into our asphalt. Steel slag is a by-product of the steel mills that when combined with traditional RAP and a small percentage of virgin binder produces a very high quality and great looking surface for our customers;
• We have used pocessed shingles, rubber and glass have been utilized to reduce the consumption of finite virgin natural resources as well as reduce our reliance on foreign oil;
• Finally, warm and cold asphalt mixes are also used which significantly lowers Brooks energy consumption as well as our plant emissions, making us a better environmental steward.
